DUI Classes in Denver – What You Need to Know

If you get convicted of DUI in Denver, the judge will order you to complete alcohol education classes as part of your sentence. Most defendants are court-ordered to complete a Level II Education program, consisting of 24 class hours over 12 weeks.

But if you are suffering from alcoholism, you may also be ordered to Level 2 Therapy classes – an intensive substance abuse/alcohol treatment program. Depending on your case, you will be assigned to one of the following therapy tracks:

  1. Track A (42 hours over 5 months) – For first-time offenders with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of less than 0.15%.
  2. Track B (52 hours over 6 months) – For first-time offenders with a BAC of 0.15% or higher or who refused to take a chemical test.
  3. Track C (68 hours over 8 months) – For repeat-DUI offenders with a BAC of less than 0.15%.
  4. Track D (86 hours over 10 months) – For repeat-DUI offenders with a BAC of 0.15% or higher or who refused to take a chemical test.
Note that DUI defendants under age 21 are usually assigned to Level I Education, consisting of 12 class hours over three days. And defendants with at least four drunk driving convictions get assigned to a Level II Four Plus (“Track F”) relapse prevention program, consisting of 180 class hours over 18 months. Failure to complete DUI school as ordered by the court will likely cause the judge to revoke your probation, un-suspend your jail sentence, and remand you to jail.1
