Taking DUI classes is required for many defendants facing drunk driving charges in Colorado Springs.

Can I take my DUI classes online?

Normally, it is required to complete the courses in person if you live in Colorado, but some judges may make an exception. If you live out-of-state, you should be allowed to attend online. Either way, ask the judge ahead of time if you are permitted to complete the classes online. You can also call the Office of Behavioral Health’s DUI Service Program at 303-866-7499 to make sure that your provider is pre-approved by the state.

How long are DUI classes in Colorado Springs?

Level I Education consists of 12 hours of drug and alcohol classes over three days. Usually, the class is divided into three different four-hour classes. Level I education is for you if you are under 21 and had your license revoked for DUI, DWAI, or UDD (underage drinking and driving). Level II Education is the most common DUI School course. It consists of 24 hours of classes over 12 weeks. Level II Education is a requirement if you either: Depending on the recommendations of your alcohol evaluator, you may also have to complete Level II Therapy. This is an intensive drug education and alcohol treatment program. You get assigned to complete one of four different tracks depending on your case:
  1. Track A lasts 42 hours over 5 months. Your are a first-time DUI defendant with a BAC less than 0.15%.
  2. Track B lasts 52 hours over 6 months. You are a first-time DUI defendant with a BAC of 0.15% or higher or you who refused to take a chemical test.
  3. Track C lasts 68 hours over 8 months. You are a repeat-DUI defendant with a BAC of less than 0.15%.
  4. Track D lasts 86 hours over 10 months. You are a repeat-DUI defendant with a BAC of 0.15% or higher or you who refused to take a chemical test.3

What if I do not complete my DUI classes?

Depending on your case, failure to complete DUI School in Colorado Springs could result in a jail sentence. Also, the DMV may refuse to reinstate your driver’s license. Therefore, if you need extra time to complete your classes, you should inform your probation officer and ask the court to pre-approve an extension of time.4
